This collecting trip was undertaken alongside a humanitarian medical mission to the Baka people in Cameroon and the Central African Republic, carried out by Francisco Malumbres, a medical doctor, and Rosane, a nurse from Brazil. One of the objectives was to establish a small field surgical centre. The planned trip to the eastern part of the country was cut short by the presence of a faction of Boko Haram, a violent insurgent group. Francisco and Rosane were forced to spend the night in hiding in Bangui before leaving the area at 4 a.m., concealed inside a pickup truck. The Aphyosemion aff. elegans collected during the trip displayed two distinct phenotypes, blue and yellow. When bred, both phenotypes were produced. |
