LECTURES
Jean Huber was a prolific speaker until around the year 2000, after which he somewhat reduced his level of activity.

In 2001, he was a lecturer at the American Killifish Association Convention at Niagara Falls, and in 2002 at Bay Area Killifish Association (BAKA) in San Francisco. Exceptionally, he gave an honorary lecture at KCF 50th anniversary congress, near Lyon, the French Association he co-founded in 1974.
BIOGRAPHY
Researcher with a Ph.D. in zoology (population genetics) from Nancy University, France (1978), holding an engineering degree from ENSPC (Grande École, Bordeaux) and an MBA from INSEAD (Fontainebleau). Specialized in all Cyprinodontiformes and mentored by Jacques Daget.

Creator and editor of the Killi-Data Project — a worldwide scientific database — founded in 1994 with the objectives of sharing knowledge on killifish and financially supporting young researchers and collector-aquarists. Since 2011, he has also served as editor of the independent, peer-reviewed annual scientific journal Killi-Data Series.

Affiliated with the Paris Museum (MNHN), with expertise in morphology, genetics, taxonomy (including computerized systematics and the ICZN Code), biogeography (palaeo and extant), and conservation. Field collector, mainly in Gabon and Congo, he pioneered three speciation concepts: frontier species, island species, and isomorphic allopatric and heteromorphic allopatric species groups. He is the author of two monographs — one on the genus Rivulus (Rivulidae s.l.) published in 1992, and another on comparative characters of African and Neotropical oviparous Cyprinodonts — as well as several editions of the Killi-Data book lists (1994, 1996, 2000, 2006, 2007).

Within the Cyprinodontiformes, the species Epiplatys huberi and Aphyosemion jeanhuberi were named in his honour.
