SALTA - FORMOSA 2017

On our first trip to Salta and Formosa, Guillermo Corrado, Luis Gonzalez, Ulises, and Gabriel Alicino traveled from Embarcación to Ingeniero Juárez along routes 34 and 81, fishing for all the species typical of the area and time of year. In Argentina, we have a monsoon cycle in the summer in the area known as the Dry Chaco, with heavy rains, flash floods, and water remaining for a shorter time than the puddles that form in winter in other parts of the country. We fished for Amatolebias wichi, Austrolebias vanderbergi, Trigonectes balzani and aplocheiloides, Papiliolebias bitteri, Titanebias monstrosus, and Neofundulus paraguayensis. As an anecdote, we visited a spot we called Laguna Brava (Wild Lagoon). The water temperature was very high, and the fish came out pale; we could barely save them by changing the water and cooling it down. (Text by Gabriel Alicino)
